At the scheduled time, the robot will either vacuum or mop, depending on whether you have the dry or wet tank installed. While you may want this for a set-it-and-forget-it type of cleaning experience, it’s not quite there.

On the con side, the vacuum power is just okay; not great at carpets but better on floors, and best for mopping. First, fill the tank with water to the Water line, then add a small amount of Bissell solution until you reach the Formula line. With spinning scrubber pads and a rotating brush roll, the vacuum will pick up dirt and gunk with ease. Your floor will likely be wet and slippery after running the SpinWave in Spot mode, so use caution until it dries. Now that we’ve been using it a while and have a good idea of how it works, I thought I’d share a little review of our experience with it so far.

Quite often during my testing I would hear the bot shut down because it had become tangled on something and I would have to go and untangle and rescue it. Luckily, once you’ve drawn your zones, you can determine whether they get vacuumed, vacuumed and mopped or are off limits. In vacuuming mode, the SpinWave offers up to 1,500Pa of suction power, which allows it to easily collect pet hair, dust, and other debris from low-pile carpet and area rugs, as well as hard floors. Bissell says to set up the charging dock at least 40 inches away from objects on either side, and 40 inches across from anything. I also appreciate that Bissell bundles two pairs of reusable cloth scrubbing pads with the SpinWave.

While I won’t spend much time on the other tabs as they’re straight forward and much easier to navigate, the app includes a tab for scheduling cleanings, one to see your cleaning history, as well as a maintenance tab that shows the various parts of the vacuum and their level of functionality. There are more advanced robot vacuums out there for sure, but none for this kind of value and with a brand name. And, with the Soft Surface Avoidance Sensor, there's no need to worry about the robot going up on area rugs or carpets when in wet mopping mode. It will just vacuum if you have the vacuum attachment on, but once or twice a week I swap it out for the mop attachment so it will vacuum and mop while we sleep.We ran each mop, including the SpinWave, a minimum of four times, assessing how well they were able to clean a water spill, a sticky soda spill and dried-on mud stains off a laminate floor.
